FREE Patriotic Beanie knitting pattern red white and blue
July 4th is one of my favorite holidays! BBQs, fireworks, friends, family, and fun!! So I decided to whip up a fun red, white, and blue beanie topped with a firework pom! I hope you enjoy it. I sell the firework poms in my shop if you want one. ;)
MATERIALS
US size 13 and 15 16" circular knitting needles
Tapestry needle
Measuring Tape
Scissors
Stitch marker
SUGGESTED YARN -- SUPER BULKY WEIGHT 6
Lion Brand Thick n Quick or Malabrigo Rasta
Color A = Red
Color B = White
Color C = Blue
This is a stash buster and FREE so I'm not gonna measure yardage LOL, so grab your scraps of red, white, and blue.
SIZES
Child (Adult)
8w” x 8.5l” (8.5w” x 9.5l”)
ABBREVIATIONS
sts = stitches P = purl K = knit K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
GAUGE — on size 15 needles
9 sts x 13 rows = 4” square in stockinette stitch
NOTES
Make sure to twist yarn when switching between colors to avoid holes.
Keep floats loose!
PATTERN
With size 13 circular needles and Color A, cast on 36 (40) sts. Place marker and join to work in the round.
*K1, P1*; repeat from * to end of round.
Repeat for 4 (5) more rounds for a total of 5 (6) rounds.
Switch to size 15 needles.
STRIPES
With Color A, knit one round.
With Color B, knit one round.
Repeat these 2 rounds until the beanie measures approximately half of final length. Cut Color A leaving a tail long enough to weave in later.
STARS
Knit 2 rounds with Color C.
With *Color B, K1, with Color C, K3*; repeat from * to end of round.
With *Color C, K2, with Color B, K1, with Color C, K1*; repeat to end of round.
Repeat these 2 rounds 1 (2) more time(s). Cut Color B leaving a tail long enough to weave in later.
DECREASE
With Color C, knit one round.
CHILD SIZE
*K4 sts, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
*K3 sts, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
*K2 sts, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
*K1 st, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
ADULT SIZE
*K6 sts, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
*K5 sts, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
*K4 sts, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
*K3 sts, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
*K2 sts, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
*K1 st, K2tog*; repeat from * to end of round.
Cut Color C, leaving an 8" tail.
Thread darning needle and pull through remaining stitches. Pull tight to gather and secure. Weave in all ends.
